Dec. 03 'Breaking News' MUNICIPAL WASTE TREATMENT SERVICE TO WEST REVELSTOKE?
Currently serviced by private septic systems, requiring minimum 10,000sq. ft. lot sizes, areas on the west side of the Columbia River are likely to see Municipal Sewage Service in the not to distant future. The City of Revelstoke has put forth several possible locations for a new or expanded solid waste treatment facility in Revelstoke (necessary due to expansion of Revelstoke Mountain Resort), but those options such as South Revelstoke and Mill Street are unlikely to pass public opinion due to the NIMBY sentiment in those areas. We see the City putting a second facility on one of it's several large parcels in the Big Eddy and picking up volumes from the Columbia Park, West Revelstoke, and North-West Revelstoke areas. While not the least expensive option, a treat facility in West Revelstoke will face the smallest public backlash (due to relative proximity from residential neighbourhoods), and, The City would, in turn, make it's first proactive step to alleviating the housing shortage in Revelstoke; municipal sewage service would allow for multi-residential developments in West Revelstoke, that previously could not have been. Look for developers to focus on West Revelstoke when the City looks west for sewage treatment.
